Create: Game Project 1: Welcome to Synad City

Synad City is a setting I’m building for my eventual use in stories and games. I love worldbuilding, and this world is one is set in an Earth-like world with advanced technology. Synad City itself is just one place in this world and is a cyberpunk-themed location.

To help me develop this setting, I thought it would be a good idea to use the format of a 5e Setting and Campaign Guide built in The Homebrewery. This book is the same one I’m using as an example in other posts about learning how to use The Homebrewery, which you can find under posts with the “Integrate” tag.

I won’t share everything I write for this project, as much of it will be used for future stories I may want to publish. However, I will provide screenshots of the project and snippets of the writing.

To start, here is my current progress of the cover for this 5e dystopian future setting guide.

The Homebrewery provided the images all the elements in red, like the letters at the top and the border on the bottom. The art is AI generated and is a placeholder image until I can either create my own art for the cover, or get someone else to do it.

Next is the table of contents and a very short preview of some of the planned parts of the guide.

The page number are not updated yet because I haven’t written some of those pages yet. Page numbers will probably be one of the last things to be updated, as I’ll be adding content and they’ll constantly shift.

You can see some of the corporations that will play major roles in the city. In the right column, there is a list of technologies sorted by their respective classes.

Here are some of my worldbuilding notes regarding the various classes of technology:

The Technology Advancement Department’s list of technological classes: Energy, Cybernetic, Nanofiber, Nanoparticle, Quantum Computing, Resonance, Photonic, and Gravity. Each has subcategories as of the year 2120 as follows:

  • Class C: Commonplace among the populace, including lower-class and impoverished persons. Generally safe.
  • Class G: General among the populace, but more rare than C. Common among middle-class persons.
  • Class W: Cutting edge releases newly available to the public or inherently expensive to produce. Has some inherent risk because of its newness to market. Generally accessible only to upper-class persons.
  • Class M: Military & Medical grade, and only available to authorized personnel. Contains inherent risks.
    • Class M+: Medical
    • Class M~: Military
  • Class E: Experimental. Not generally seen outside of laboratories and R&D facilities. Often dangerous or unstable. Not available for public use.
  • Class U: Unique. Often homemade or pieced together. Often dangerous and unstable. Not recommended for use by any persons.

That concludes the preview of this game project. It’s one of the projects I’m most interested in at the moment, but that interest may wax and wane, just like with so many of my past projects. But that’s why I’m posting it. I’m hoping that some form of accountability will keep me creating and working on these projects until I can finally say that I’ve completed them.
